Try the following: The total number of shares available for buying or selling by the public from the NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX are roughly unchanged from 2.5 years ago. That is what I said, and that is what is true.

Not only is this false, it's obviously false. Your statement is tantamount to saying that the Wilshire 5000 (a proxy for the whole market) has not increased in the last 2.5 years, or if it has, all companies have ceased doing stock splits. (Tip: number of shares is meaningless. It's market cap that matters).

Perhaps you meant to say that the number of distinct issues (not shares) has remained about the same. I believe that's also false, but at least it's not obviously false.
