China's PC Sales to Rise by a Quarter in 1999, Xinhua Says Hi Kemble: Check this out. ================= China's PC Sales to Rise by a Quarter in 1999, Xinhua Says Beijing, March 23 (Bloomberg) - China's sales of personal computers will rise by about one-quarter this year to 5.1 million units as more households buy PCs, the Xinhua news agency reported citing Zhang Qi, director of information products at the Ministry of Information Industry. Zhang said domestically made computers accounted for 72 percent of PC sales in China last year, without giving a comparative figure for 1997. Zhang said competition in China's PC market will intensify this year as more producers of home appliances try to enter the industry. According to industry research company International Data Corp., sales of PCs in China reached 3.929 million units last year, up 29.5 percent from 1997. (Xinhua 3/23, p.5)
