AM News: Incoming Arcade Explosion
Virtual Games has signed an exclusive worldwide license to use Rage Software's 3D-shooter Incoming in the arcade.
March 19, 1999
"The arcade version of Incoming will be a modified version of that released for PC and Dreamcast in Japan," Virtual Games' President and CEO, Bruce Klein, said. "We're in the process of doing that now. Certain parts of the game will be changed, as we've taken out some of the more challenging sections of Incoming whilst at the same time ensuring the arcade gamer gets the best experience possible for their money.
"An average game will last around three minutes," Klein continued. "But if you're really good - and I mean really good - the entire game will last up to sixteen minutes from start to finish. That will be one experience you won't forget!"
The arcade version looks as though it will feature improved capabilities compared to its respected PC and Dreamcast relatives. "Incoming is an absolutely marvellous game and we at Virtual Games are honored that Rage chose to license it to us. I must say that Incoming for PC and Dreamcast is almost perfect, and we intend to make it perfect in the arcade," Klein grinned.
Virtual Games will be using its new VRX-633 platform to support Incoming, using an innovative walk-in Virtual Reality Hood. "We've been working on the Hood for over two years now, and Incoming is the premiere title to benefit from it," Klein said. "We're considering deals with a number of other top-quality arcade publishers that could make use of the Virtual Reality Hood, and they will be announced as the deals are finalized." The new open architecture game platform features six degrees of operational freedom, full VGA video, high-quality TFT LCD panels, 3D audio surround sound and high-speed fiber optic data links.
"We'll be releasing Incoming to seven beta arcades across the US in May. The final product will be officially released to US arcades in June."
If Incoming's existing success for both PC and Dreamcast is mirrored in the arcades, Virtual Games could be looking at an smash hit. Start saving your dollars now... |
