Your "How NASDAQ Trains Market Makers" story reminds me of the old chestnut about how one catches a spider monkey (substitute a blind squirrel).

To catch a spider monkey, put his favorite nut in an empty wine bottle that you tie to a tree. A monkey, finding the snare, will be able to reach its hand into the bottle and grasp its prize, but it will be unable to remove its hand as long as it holds onto the nut.

The monkey never thinks to let go of the nut and just turn the bottle upside down. It will not let go of its prize even when the trappers appear thus making its capture easy. And if another nut is placed on the ground just beyond the monkey's reach, the monkey will reach for it but will never let go of its prize in hand even though doing so would result in an equal prize without the loss of its freedom.
