As USB technology speeds up home PC applications, Dazzle Multimedia is capitalizing on the technology with three new video editing products.
Dazzle's President and Chief Executive David Taylor said USB's (Universal Serial Bus) wider bandwidth lets users capture video at more highly compressed data-transfer rates (up to 1Mbit per second), resulting in better quality. The USB Dazzle Digital Video Creator (suggested retail price $249) is shipping now to CompUSA, Best Buy, Fry's Electronics, Micro Center, Office Depot and Staples. Dazzle Digital Video Creator--Internet Edition (SRP $299) is set to ship April 1. A third product, Dazzle Photo Maker (SRP $99), also is currently shipping to retailers.
The video editing kits consist of a peripheral and a software component, enabling users to capture, edit and export videos to E-mail, recordable media and the Web. Users may publish video clips to the Web in MPEG-1 format or in RealMedia format with the Internet Edition. Dazzle struck a deal with Real Networks Inc. to support the file format, which allows smoother playback on systems with slower Internet connections, Taylor said. The products, which support USB and parallel port connections, update a parallel port-only version of Digital Video Creator on shelves now.
Dazzle Digital Photo Maker, a translucent blue-and-white peripheral, enables users to print or E-mail still images captured from videotape and requires a USB port.
Other system requirement for the three products are: Windows 95, 98 or NT; a Pentium 133MHz processor or faster; and 32 Mbytes of RAM.
