I think the idea is a good one but, like the Wit beer deal, more attention has to be paid to the "to who factor" which basically means. Once we buy into these illiquid deals, to who do we sell it to? The big VC firms, and I don't mean Viet Cong, have a pipeline that goes from start to finish. How else do you justify Yahoo! being public. It is kind of like the pennystock days of hot-air and huge market caps.
But, without the end of the pipe-line in place, the investors will be tied into these deals forever. After all, what do you think will be underwrote first a deal like Wit with seed capital from small investors or a deal that was seeded by VC who throw business daily to the brokerages underwriting there deals? "don't bite the hand that feeds you"
