I'm beginning to think that when the X2 is finally released, it'll only be a small pop in the chart and then another downturn. First of all, can anybody just buy an X2 modem and use it with their ISP? Probably not. I won't be buying an X2 modem because there doesn't seem to be any ISP's that support any 56k standard right now. Only promises that ISP's will likely side with either ROK or USRX and others saying that they'll just stay on the sidelines until a standard is mapped out.

The X2 release will probably be a good shorting opportunity. I suspect the journalists in the finanical papers will bash the 56k modem due to no standard being set.

Also, the X2 will be a headache for USRobotic's technical service. Bunch of non-techie's calling as to why they can't connect at their ISP at 56k. They'll probably be told that they have to switch to an ISP that supports their 56k standard. There will be a lot of unsatisfied customes initially.

The 56k is a bit ahead of its time right now.
