It is interesting how the writer of this article thinks AT&T and the local phone companies will spend billions of dollars upgrading their systems in case somebody might want to carry an intelligent handset (vaporware) across the country and then STILL NEED TO PLUG IT INTO SOMEBODY ELSE'S TELEPHONE BASE!?!?!

Why bother? Why not skip the base and the wires and just carry a smaller, lighter, and even more intelligent Qualcomm CDMA2000 handset with built-in contact manager, web-browser, e-mail, etc.?

(Of course, if you own billions and billions of dollars worth of copper phone lines, this so-silly idea might have some attraction. When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. <g>)
