I think it is a desperate attempt to survive in a rapidly changing market. I know it is early but it seems Yahoo sees the future and it is not what is happening today with these portals. Also, competition might be rearing it's ugly head. Look at Gnet for example. This "portal" was nowhere just 6 months ago. Today, you here about them all over the place. Interesting, but I feel that soon with Amzn and Yhoo you might be seeing some realizations that will wake people up to what the net is all about.
