FWIW, here's a little anecdote apropos of nothing. The son of a friend of mine is a psychologist in Austin. Among other things, he provides personal counseling services to Dell employees through some part of their benefits program. He says a striking feature of the Dell workforce is how superbly motivated they are, and how most every employee preaches the mantra of how each Dell employee can make a difference, and how important each individual's effort is. He thinks its a little spooky, actually. But he takes their zeal as quite genuine, and as reflective of a company culture which is very different and "Can Do" healthy than most firms. Healthy not just for the company but for mgt and staff as individuals.
Some might say that the crew of the titanic was happy and motivated as well, but I've done consulting for enough businesses to know that this kind of corporate culture doesn't come easy, and that you can't fake it. Its "the right stuff" and a company either has it or it doesn't. (Very, very few have it.) Its an intangible which can't be measured and can't be found on the balance sheet, but which has a direct and lasting impact on the bottom line.
I offer this to the thread FWIW. A small piece of the bigger picture no doubt, but perhaps of some solace to longs who have seen their portfolio taking a beating this past month. For myself, I'm still long and have no intention of selling for the forseeable future -- until the fundamentals change -- no matter what the short-term gyrations of Mr. Market.
Thanks, Mohan, for continuing to post news on Dell.
Cheers. |
