Hey there Thomas.

Yes, I live in Sunnyvale, a block from the beating aorta which is El Camino, work in Palo Alto. S'vale is the closest place we could afford a house. Been there six years. Wow. Shouldn't the mtge hurt less by now? -I guess there's Redwood City, but I'd hate to have the sun in my eyes on both legs of my commute. Too much risk of doing the "two bodies in one place" physics demo with a bicyclist.
Came here in '90 from the east coast, most recently Boston. The only good thing you'll hear me say about Beantown is that rents there gave us a graded introduction to cost of living in the Promised Land (I quote Loving Spouse as we crested Hwy 580 after six days of driving when not being insomnic in Best Westerns.)
We are socked in by neighbors with dogs. The folks next door would leave theirs outside til all hours. I found that to be very hard on my ability to sleep, so things got a mite strained between them and us. I wish you pet-free new neighbors. Are you in that surreal drapery of pastel rowhouses we see when we take 101 toward the Golden Gate?
Later Alex
