Display Technologist Joins as VP Research and Product Development
SEATTLE, March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Microvision, Inc. (Nasdaq: MVIS, MVISW) today announced it has expanded its executive team with two key staff additions. Will McAllister, a 12-year veteran of AT&T Wireless Services and McCaw Cellular, has joined Microvision as vice president of marketing, and Arthur Minich, a prominent hardware and software technologist, has joined as vice president of research and product development. McAllister brings more than 25 years of executive experience in managing business operations, sales and marketing within technology companies, while Minich has spent more than 30 years in management, product and business development, manufacturing and marketing in hardware and software companies of all sizes.
"With over 55 years combined sales, marketing, business development and manufacturing expertise behind them, these incredibly talented individuals will be a driving force behind Microvision's marketing and product development initiatives," said Rick Rutkowski, Microvision president and CEO. "These additions add real depth to the Microvision team as we move toward commercial product. Will McAllister witnessed the birth of the personal computer at IBM and participated actively at McCaw and AT&T in the birth and development of the wireless communications industry. Art Minich launched a division from zero to $160 million in two and a half years at Tektronix. At Proxima, Art led the development of a product that took the company from under $20 million in sales to more than $150 million in less than 15 months. These individuals -- with proven track records in taking products from development stage to commercial launch, from niche market to mass market -- enable Microvision to embark with fresh enthusiasm and confidence on the continued development of our business."
McAllister most recently was vice president, marketing for AT&T Wireless Services' Western Region, responsible for an area that encompassed 3,400 employees, $1.2 billion in annual revenues and 1.8 million customers. He began his career at the company in 1987, when it was still known as McCaw Cellular, as director of sales and marketing for the company's Oregon district. He then became vice president, general manager of the district, where he helped double the total customer base within two years -- the highest market share and market penetration growth in the company. Prior to joining McCaw Cellular, McAllister was a sales manager for Nynex/IBM Corporation in Portland, Ore. He also served as a systems engineer and then account executive for IBM's Indianapolis office, and then as sales school instructor at the company's Atlanta office. He began his career as an officer in the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division in Fayetteville, N.C. and has a B.S. in economics from the College of William and Mary.
Minich previously was with Laser Power Corporation in San Diego, where he served as president and general manager for the company's display division, as well as acting vice president of operations for Laser Power's microlaser division. Prior to Laser Power, Minich was the chief technical officer and vice president of research and development for Proxima Corporation in San Diego. He also was the founder, president and chairman of Pivotal Corp. in Seattle, and has held positions as business unit/group general manager for Eastman Kodak, president and chief executive officer for Daystar Systems Technology in Lake Oswego, Ore., division general manager for Tektronix, and vice president of research and development and software sciences for Auto-trol Technology Corp. in Denver. Minich began his career at Hewlett-Packard in Loveland, Colo., where he spent 12 years in numerous research and development and manufacturing positions. He earned a M.S.E.E./C.S. -- S.U.R.G.E. from the Hewlett-Packard Honors Program and a B.S.E.E. from Iowa State University. He also has performed extensive post-graduate work in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics and mechanical engineering and has authored numerous patents and articles.
