I'll change my post a little on the basic computer needed for daytrading. -INTEL P-II CELERON 300A - $129 -ABIT BH6 motherboard (3 DIMM 5 PCI/2 ISA/1 AGP) - $159 Note: Overclocking the 300A to 450Mhz is very easy. I would go far out of my way to get the ABIT BH6 board (amazing board). It is also compatible with the new PIII so upgrading is easy down the road. You are going to need at least two monitors. Two cheaper cards that I know work together well are the -AGP DIAMOND SPEEDSTAR 8Mb video card - $72 -PCI Viper 330 8Mb- $70 Note: I use two Viper 550's 16Mb (AGP and PCI, $210 each) and a Viper 330 8Mb in my machine. This is a little overkill but I have never have video feed problems <ggg> Before you buy two cards to put in you machine check with people on SI who have tried the combo to make sure they work together. -PC-100 64 meg 168 pin SDRAM DIMMS - $135 Note: If you can afford it throw in another 64 megs. However other than for some high end functions you will see little difference between 64Mb and 128Mb for trading. Instead of spending the cash on another 64Mb use it to get a bigger monitor. Monitors: In my opinion at least a 17" ($400) and a 15" ($200) is necessary. The more screen space you have the more information you can follow. Note: I personally have a VIEWSONIC G790 19IN .26MM 1600X1280 - $799 Panasync E70 17" .27MM 1280X1024 - $405 Aamazing 15" .27MM 1280X1024 - (not available) The Panasync is a very good 17" monitor for the money. If you can afford it go with three 21" flat screens and put on your shades. Hard drive I personally do a lot of technical analysis on stocks using data on stocks stored on my hard drive. Instead of spending the money on a 10-15GB spend the same amount of money and get a really fast 6GB. If you need more later you can always throw in another hard drive very easily. Internet connection: You want ADSL or Cable if you have it in you area. For this you are going to need a ethernet card.
