Didn't mean to ignore you! No- I have no trouble accepting that Santa and Zeus are myths. Even the Greeks themselves, as they developed into wonderful abstract thinkers, understood that their pantheon was mythology and treated it as such. And while there is historical evidence re: the existence of a St Nick, I think it's understood that Santa is a happy invention giving substance to the lovely spirit of giving, unless you're five, of course, when he is most real.
I accept YOUR denial of the Christian Jesus with no problem and I understand it; what I meant to say was that I couldn't personally reject the possibility at this time. There is far more "evidence" to be considered in the areas of religion before I feel qualified to without hesitation reject everything spiritual. RIght now I'm trying to read FF Bruce's book on the reliability of the New Testament documents. The commonalities in religions and values are what intrigue me and make me wonder about the spiritual possibilities in man.

Because access to that "spiritual" part of myself came by way of Catholicism, augmented by a strong musical background, I find that those triggers are comfortable for me, and pleasurable, and personally edifying. I have a hard time throwing them all away and have decided I don't need to---that it's not hypocritical of me singing in a choir as long as I'm honest with myself and others about what I believe.

SO all I can do is continue to read and listen and explore the possibilities. I would never deny you your journey, nor expect you to ridicule mine. (which you never have).
