If you have Norton antivirus on your system, just make sure you have the most current virus definitions (use the LiveUpdate feature) and you'll be fine. Both McAfee and Norton have the ability to detect and cure all known strains of the CIH virus.

In my never-to-be-humble opinion, press releases about "new" virus strains are primarily issued to add fear and loathing among the minions who then, it's hoped, rush to the nearest source and purchase antivirus software. Yes, there's some risk from these viruses, but it's rarely as widespread and dire as the releases would have you believe. Remember when NETA issued the releases about the Remote Explorer Virus? Turned out that it never even left the walls of the company where it was "discovered". Many thought it was just a ploy on NETA's part to get some last-minute sales for the end of the quarter.
In any case, just make sure your virus definitions are up-to-date and you'll be fine. :)
