Gabriel Lippmann was a French physicist who won the Nobel prize in 1908, for his research into color photography. There is some limited info on the internet about him. Try an infoseek search. His technique is being revived and improved upon by the people mentioned in the PR. I'll leave it to the co. to disclose any more details, as my knowledge is very limited.
