Disinformation?

You've written several times that there is no problem getting on AOL in Tampa. Well, your hometown newpaper carried a recent article reporting just the opposite.

- a small sample from the Tampa Tribune (2/16/97) tampatrib.com

"Readers Air Their Frustrations with AOL Service"

" The letter is one of more than 55 received last week from readers polled by me about their America Online experiences. The complaints range from generally poor service to frustration about constant busy signals, problems in reaching some Web pages, and being cut off in the middle of sessions."

"Since the company began offering access for a flat rate of $19.95 in December, it has increased its number of subscribers from 6 million to 8 million. Yet, the equipment to handle the overload has not kept pace with the increased demand."

"The results have been sobering for consumers, many of whom have given up on AOL and moved on to direct Internet providers."

"AT&T recently noted that about one-third of its new Internet customers last month were frustrated AOL subscribers. Local Internet providers in the Bay area reported getting many new customers who had been with AOL. Several readers said they will continue to keep their AOL accounts active but have also subscribed with Netcom, AT&T or other direct Internet providers.

"The most common complaint from local readers seems to be the inability to sign onto the service because the telephone lines stay busy."

I guess you're just luckier than all the others.

Regards
