I, frankly, do not know why there is so much worry that a cheaper PC will mean less profits. The supply/demand curve takes care of the problem if the demand is strong - and it should be strong with the advent of the Internet, increasing corporate use and more familiarity with computers by everybody.

Remember what Admiral Bic did with the ballpoint pen. Made them so cheap that people could throw them away when they had used them once or twice. His company was amazingly successful - the model was copied by almost all other pen makers. Bic himself is one of the richest men in Europe.
