All excellent questions. Don't forget that the article was published in 1991. The market for small diamonds seemed to soften in 1997, but there is still a very strong demand for gem-quality stones especially stones over 1 ct.

With the massive amounts of money spent on exploration and mining, i doubt that we will see major fluctuations.
