,,,this for the MSFT junkies on your last ie5,,,,dont understand why Australians are not given the option by >Microsoft of using popular search engines like YHOO, Lycos and AltaVista, presumably there are similar limitations in other countries,,,, Uncheck any box for a engine you don't want to use,, In the list box click on the preferred engine from the list and click on the up arrow button to promote it to the top of the list,,, it's a great pity that theres no obvious way to add more search engines,, dont you ever assume that the listed search engines are approved by Microsoft purely on technical grounds as being the 'best'!!!!,, The IE5 beta had a much wider range of search options so seems that the search feature has been limited by marketing or what the hell of imperatives,, presumably Microsoft is using its power as a gatekeeper to get money or sort of favors,,, such limiting of availability will make it harder for new search engines to reach a mass audience and give a decided advantage to Microsoft's own SEARCH SYSTEM!!!,,, can we hope therell be much work done outside Microsoft to repair and extend this somewhat crippled feature?,,BUGGED!!! Similarly doing searches from the address bar (the fastest way) has changed -- you cant change the default search engine using TweakUI anymore and the default setup is locked into Microsoft's own search engine,,, that said and done,, the search bar now puts web page,, people search,,, maps and yellow pages in a single handy panel which is fine if you still like the predetermined search engines,, it will easily let you search different supported engines without the need to retype the search string,,isnt this a sort of INTELLIGENCE DISCRIMINATION to deny access to the SMARTEST search engines whatever? this is somewhat scary,,,,isn't it? WinWhatever is BUGGED,,,,they retrieve information from you,,,!!!!! yeah cheap very cheap!!!! source:The Pentagon 03/24/99 arcaday |
