Stock Chat: -
PFNC - Progress Bank - small bank in Philly area, loans money to start up tech companies and sometimes takes equity options in the company as part of loan package. has big position in VERT stock at very little cost. I bot some today at 13 7/8.
CBS - 39 3/8, very positive remarks by CEO today at media conference. INF (Infinity Broadcasting) 83% owned by CBS is gonna great guns, CEO talked of spinning off internet assets, and the network is turning profitable and # 1 in ratings. Stock at new high, looks like breakout to me. I added to my position today at 39 1/4 (I love buying at new highs, susie)
MAT - Mattel - after being beaten down because TOY was over-barbied, MAT is making its move into interactive games and educational toys. Buying Learning Co, Broderbund, and has good connections with key players in this part of the market. I think Mattel will become the dominant player in educational software, especially with their strong base of existing toys. This is a contrarian, value play. Mattel in low 20's is usually an excellent entry. Stock currently 25 7/16 or so.
NOVL - doing major deals. This is a great turn around story.
CPQ - DELL probably good for a move here, but box sector will remain out of favor as high power low price computers will pinch margins. You can get a heck of a lot of computer today for 600-900 bucks, so why spend 2,000 - unless you're a computer nut like me.
MSFT and AOL - should be a buy and hold part of every portfolio. Why mess around with the garbage. buy the best
CMGI and YHOO are right behind them in internet power.
do your own DD. good luck all. Larry
