BGR- re: thanks for the DEC history That was not DEC history, it was an opinion, which most of us who were in the game at that time would dispute. DEC was not eroded by competition from PCs, they didn't even know there was a battle going on. Nobody was using PCs to do midrange jobs in the mid-80's. DEC was killed by UNIX midrange machines from HP and SUN, and by their own bloated internal cost structure. I could give you lots of detail on this if you are interested.
