If they drill one hole between each of the existing ones, they
are drilling in 50m by 50m grid patterns. In that case, I think
they can only move the resource to the probable reserves category
(not proven reserves).
In that case, they will only need a total of 21*21= 441 holes.
So they will only need additional 320 new in-fill drill holes.
I agree with you that the assaying will cost much more and also
consumes much more time than the shallow drillings.
I also think that for a full feasibility report, you need the proven reserves -- not just the probable reserves.
