Carl, I know there are analysts out there who work like hell and bust their asses to do a good job, who build up the same networks you're talking about to get at the truth. But when I read in a 2-23-99 SBN piece that "the Boise, Idaho, memory maker has privately told analysts that production shot up at a 50% bit-growth rate in the company's last fiscal quarter, ended Feb. 28, compared to the previous three-month period"... ...and I see that on 3-1-99 Niles' number is 50%... ...and then I read on ZDII this morning that "Micron has been telling analysts that its bit production rose more than 60 percent sequentially in the second quarter." ...and I notice that in the span of 21 days his number shot from 50% to 65%... ...and I see that this is also a guy who despite flat-out nailing the numbers in Monday's report somehow miraculously cannot get a historical gross profit figure to be consistent across two consecutive pages of that same report... ...while by no means conclusive, there is a logical inference that may be drawn there. You don't have to draw that inference. I'm not one of the aforementioned analysts out there busting their tails, but I empathize with them. I can only imagine how they must feel to put in the kind of effort you refer to only to witness what occurred over the last several days.
