DRD WITHDRAWS BID FOR EMPEROR

MAR 23, 1999, M2 Communications - Durban Roodepoort Deep Ltd (DRD), a South African gold producer with annual production of over 630,000 ounces, has withdrawn its subsidiary's takeover bid for Emperor Mines Ltd, a company with gold resources in Australia. The offer, which was worth about AUS$64m, was taken back after Emperor started legal proceedings to try to stop the take-over.
