WILMINGTON, DEL. (March 25) BUSINESS WIRE -March 25, 1999--Starnet Communications International Inc. (OTC BB:SNMM) ("Starnet") is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary, World Gaming Services Inc. ("World Gaming") has signed a marketing agreement with Astra Marketing Inc. ("Astra") of St. Johns, Antigua, W.I., exclusive agent of the Stefan Johansson Motorsports Team.
Stefan Johansson Motorsports ("SJM") currently fields two cars in the ultra competitive Championship Auto Racing Teams ("CART") Dayton Indy Light Series. Indy Lights is one of the premier junior racing series in the world and the training ground for future CART Champ Car and Formula One drivers.
SJM finished on the podium with a 3rd place in the season opener on March 21st at the Miami-Dade Homestead race track in Miami. Auto racing is enjoying a huge growth in popularity. According to CART research, the total television audience for the 1998 season was 981.8 million viewers with race broadcasts in 19 different languages.
SJM is co-owned by international racing celebrities Stefan Johansson and Vern Schuppan. Both men have extensive racing histories, which include drives in Formula One, CART, the Indy 500 and endurance events. Each has won at the venerable 24 Hours of Le Mans, and Stefan will again drive at Le Mans this year for Audi. Ex-Ferrari Formula One pilot, Johansson's most recent accomplishment was a 3rd place finish for Audi on March 20 in the 12 Hours of Sebring in Florida.
