Access to Hotel Guests
Tut Systems' 'No New Wires' Connectivity Solution to Be Deployed to All Eight
Milenium Hotels Throughout Texas and Mexico PLEASANT HILL, Calif., March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Tut Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: TUTS), today announced that the Milenium Hotel Group has selected Tut's Systems as the provider of high-speed Internet access systems for all eight of its business and luxury hotels. Based in Monterrey, Mexico, the Milenium Hotel Group has purchased Tut's Expresso MDU system to provide guests with in-room, "plug and play" access to the Internet at speeds of up to 1 megabit per second utilizing the hotel's existing phone lines. The Milenium Hotel Group owns, manages and operates eight hotel facilities including the Holiday Inn Parque Fundidora, the Holiday Inn Express, the Country Inn and Suites Hotel in McAllen, Texas and the Crowne Plaza Hotel and Resort in Monterrey, Mexico.
Catering to business travelers and located in one of the major business destinations in Texas and Mexico, Milenium Hotels has initially deployed Tut's Expresso MDU high speed Internet access to 168 rooms in the Holiday Inn Express and to 124 rooms of the Crowne Plaza Hotel and Resort. Current plans call for Tut's Expresso MDU to be installed in all eight of the Milenium Hotels by the end of the second quarter, 1999.
Tut's Expresso MDU is the first "single box" access concentrator solution to enable the cost-effective provisioning of high-speed Internet access and data services for hotels, as well as apartment buildings, dormitories and other multi-dwelling units (MDUs). Expresso MDU incorporates Tut's popular HomeRun(TM) home networking and LongRun technology to deliver data at a speed of 1 megabit per second over existing telephone wires without interruption of voice services.
"Milenium is committed to providing state-of-the-art technologies that allow our guests to properly manage their affairs while they are on the road," said Enrique Sanchez, Corporate Planning Director for Milenium Hotel Group. "Tut's Expresso MDU system is an ideal solution for us because the technology can be quickly and affordably installed without new wiring. And our guests will enjoy an always-on, high-speed Internet connection that makes it much easier to conduct business."
"The Milenium Hotel Group is successful because it provides the high quality service and cutting edge technologies that today's business travelers demand," said Sal D'Auria, President and CEO of Tut Systems. "Our Internet access technology will allow the guests of Milenium Hotels to turn their hotel room into an 'office away from the office.'"
The Expresso MDU system is designed to sit in the basement or wiring closet of a hotel, an apartment building, or dormitory, and delivers secure, high-speed Internet access to individual units within the building. Because it utilizes Tut's HomeRun home networking technology, the Expresso MDU system connects every phone jack within an installation and allows end users with multiple PCs to share Internet connections. HomeRun also creates a private LAN within each unit, making it possible to share files and peripherals and even to play multi-player games. About Tut Tut Systems designs, develops and markets advanced communications products which enable high-speed data access over the copper infrastructure of telephone companies, as well as the copper telephone wires in homes, businesses and other buildings. These products incorporate Tut's proprietary FastCopper technology in a cost-effective, scalable and easy to deploy solution to exploit the underutilized bandwidth of copper telephone wires. The Company's
products include Expresso high bandwidth access multiplexers, associated modems and routers, XL Ethernet extension products and integrated network management software. Tut's HomeRun technology, an in-home application of FastCopper, has been chosen by the Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HomePNA) as the initial specification for in-home networking over phonelines.
