The problem is when you get carried away and forget the risk. If you sell covered calls, the risk is the same, but the margin requirement is probably higher. After all, you have to own the stock, so you have the full margin requirement of owning the stock. And this keeps you from letting your position get out of hand.

Incidentally I have heard that over the years selling naked puts on their own stock has been a great money maker for INTC as well.
