P-Com, Inc. Announces That Wide Area Management Systems Will Install Data Metro II, a New Point-to-Multipoint Wireless Router Product With an Internet Service Provider

CAMPBELL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 25, 1999--P-Com, Inc. (Nasdaq/NMS:PCMS - news), announced that Wide Area Management Services (WAMS), a designer and installer of networks and provider of equipment to Internet Service Providers in California, announced their plan to install P-Com's new Data Metro II product.

Gary Rose, WAMS' Vice President of Engineering said, ''I find this to be an exciting new product that expands our ability to serve the ISP industry with a high speed and very cost effective connection. The built in 10baseT interface provides easy access to a network or individual PC and near T1 speed has instant application for small to medium sized businesses and the high end home office user.''

Data Metro II is a second-generation point to multipoint wireless router that can connect up to 127 users separated 30 miles. Its built in 10baseT interface allows a connection to a Local Area Network (LAN) or individual PC's with the advantages of a direct connected T1 line. For example, an ISP could provide 50 small business users with direct connect via wireless to a hub and eliminate any dependency on telephone lines or high T1 costs. The product embodies the latest in security protection that further enhances its value to customers.

Thomas Shaw, WAMS' President and CEO, pointed out that ''with so many users dispersed geographically, this product solves the problem of no xDSL available where the user wants high speed in both directions for file transfers. The built in SNMP interface allows reliable and easy network management. In addition, the product can be connected the same day service is ordered.''

George Roberts, P-Com's Chairman and CEO, says, ''the Data Metro II is a great addition to our existing, well rounded wireless access products. It expands our available market and positions us in the ISP market space. With the advent of Data Metro II P-Com's position in the point-to-multipoint market now extends beyond its current position in broadband and wideband.''

P-Com, Inc. develops manufactures and markets network access systems for the worldwide wireless telecommunications market. The point-to-point, spread spectrum, and point-to-multipoint radio links provided by P-Com are designed to satisfy the network requirements of cellular and personal communications services, corporate communications, public utilities and local governments. In addition, P-Com provides comprehensive network services including system and program planning and management, path design and installation.
