Lack of action by Maxtor??? I don't get people's fears about Maxtor. Why would they turn down a very low cost ($.20-$.50/platter range is my guess, with .30 my most favored #) 30% advantage? Can't get people's fears here- its all smoke. Remember the post some time back I think reporting Readrite saying they were shipping 1.3G platters to all their customers, except 1.7G to ONE customer, and the math is that 1.7/1.3= 30% more!

Also the post from HMT tech from a poster who talked to the CEO PERSONALLY after a Wall Street Forum and who said they knew all about KM and were going to be incorporating it into drives this year. Are they planning for naught? No, he must know there WILL be a ready market for them later on and so are planning accordingly.

Maxtor is planning ad campaign for 3Q and will bring to market 4Q and at Comdex in November (thanks for who supplied Nov info). My guess is Western Digital will sign on sometime before end of year- tomorrow would suit me just fine but it may be months from now. IBM and Seagate probably are lost to the cause till MR is proven commercially, since IBM is only MR and Seagate will be 100% MR this year I believe.
