That was what made the prospect of a JV so attractive. Ericsson is undoubtedly much more likely to get infrastructure to fly out the door. If the only two choices open to Qualcomm were to sell it entirely or keep it in its entirety and R&D weren't involved then I would agree that selling might make sense. But they had a better option which they did not get, and on top of that they apparently got rid of much of their ability to innovate.
