I wish I could add more about this I-Chain concept. I am guessing that you will hear more from Novell about I-Chain once they identify and lock down industry partner(s). I understand that Novell has no intention of doing the I-Chain alone. They would like to see an IBM, Arthur Anderson (sp?), Compaq, Citi-Bank, etc. potentially commit to helping NOVL deliver on the I-Chain first phase. They need this type of VAN / e-commerce experience to successfully deliver on I-Chain.

Since I-Chain will not even show its face until around the summer, I would think that you wont hear much about I-Chain publicly from Novell until about June. I dont blame the NOVLers that were surprised Schmidt brought up the I-Chain concept to the public. This ZEN is still in its infancy and much still has to be done on I-Chain. I would think that it was an intentional leak to test the industry waters on the idea of Novell possibly becoming a VAN or working on an Internet-based VAN solution. Maybe Schmidt wanted to have a response to MSFT's recently announced e-commerce strategy. It sounds like much of the MSFT e-commerce strategy has many similarities to the I-Chain concept. Maybe the leak was NOVL's version of a MSFT "PR ploy".

I still am not sure what roll NOVL wants in the resulting I-Chain solution. Do they want to simply be the provider of I-Chain infrastructure or do they want to test the waters of becoming a VAN or service portal? I am confused based on what I understand about I-Chain.

Thats just my thoughts on it.
