I attended the conference at the Waldorf -- Dr. Jacobs did say he was "quite pleased with the results" and that Q is "excited about earnings growth prospects" for all aspects of the business. Ericsson will acquire Q engineering talent from infra biz and create global tech center in San Diego. Questions for Dr. Jacobs re Q future: Q will continue to manufacture ASICs, provide software to other manufacturers, will retain ability to make infrastructure equipment for Nortel and can manufacture multi-mode phones with no additional size implications; believes can continue to compete in phone market, which "goes hand in hand w/ ASICs." However I heard concern after the meeting as to whether Q had given up too much.
