The reason why Sun didn't exercise it's option to buy the Ross was because of concern over anti-trust issues. The way that I understood it was that since Ross has grown in the Sparc market and is now moving into the motherboard business, Sun could give the apperance of an anti-trust situation and Sun doesn't want any part of it. It's not worth it to sun to buy the stock and then be put under the microscope about it's relationship with Ross, Fujitsu and the sparc market.
