Re: "Anyone who wants to invest in a company who's mission is to compete against a powerful monopoly several orders of magnitude larger it's size, had better be aware that there is risk- and that it might take multiple engineering attempts to produce a financial win."

You mean that same company who owned the PLD market then went down the tubes due to lack of R&D funding? The one who had a strong microcontroller family that was killed off because there wasn't any R&D money to go around? The one who is losing market share in communications? The same one who then blew $500 Million on NexGen and has only returned $17 Million in profits since then? The same company that some are forecasting a full $1 share loss for this quarter? The same one where Jerry repriced his options so he could rake in more $$millions$$ while leading the company to oceans of red ink? That one Scumbria? Is that the one you are talking about?

You're right about their mission. It's to compete against a powerful monopoly several orders of magnitude larger it's size. Their mission certainly isn't to enhance shareholder value.
