There are many talks on going between all of these companies.GTE was rumered to be in serious talks with MCI who latter was aquired by British Telecom. There still exists the possibility that GTE and British Telecom may merge. There are all sorts of possibilites out there. GTE has been the fastest with the mostest into long distance with over 800,000 subscribers in their first year. The race is on. Who will end up with whom is still very much in the air. You can bet this industry won't look like anything it does today in 5 years.
