BITSTREAM: Neon Technology's new Internet set-top boxes to use
Bitstream's TrueDoc font technology
MAR 25, 1999, M2 Communications - Silicon Valley, California -- Neon
Technology, Inc. today announced a line of set-top products using
Bitstream's (Nasdaq: BITS) patented, award-winning TrueDoc dynamic font
technology.

TrueDoc dramatically improves the display of text on Neon's set-top
boxes by producing dynamic, scalable fonts that are ideal for use with
Internet set-top boxes. With its small code size and fast rendering
speed, TrueDoc takes up a small amount of space, generates characters
quickly, and renders high-quality text. The resulting characters are
fully scaleable to any point size at any resolution on any device.
Furthermore, TrueDoc dramatically improves the display of text by
Neon's set-top boxes by providing features such as anti-flickering,
gamma correction, and edge sharpening, which optimize text for display
on television monitors.

Neon's n.TV line of set-tops is based on the x86 platform and
provides a range of price points and features. The n.TV 1000, available
immediately, features web-browsing and e-mail. The n.TV 2000, an Intel
Pentium-based product set for release this summer, adds a built-in TV
tuner and smart card, while the n.TV 3000 will add DVD capability for a
Christmas 1999 release. All of Neon's products display text, images,
and video with un-paralleled quality on an ordinary television.

"The use of TrueDoc technology in our set-top products has helped
Neon to provide the best display of text on a television in the
industry," said John Hsueh, vice president of software at Neon
Technology. "Bitstream's transparent support for multi-lingual fonts
lets us bring our products to a world-wide audience, which now includes
parts of Asia, Europe, and Latin America."

"Together with customers such as Neon Technology, Bitstream is
providing technologies for a new class of application," said John
Collins, chief technology officer at Bitstream. "Bitstream's dynamic
font technology enables desktop quality viewing on an ordinary
television set, enhancing the experience of the Internet for new
set-top users all over the world."

All of Neon Technology's set-top products feature web browsing and
electronic mail. The browser supports HTML 3.2 with frames, tables, and
JavaScript. SSL 3.0 is supported for secure e-commerce and
RealNetworks' RealPlayer 5.0TM is supported for streaming audio and
video. In addition, Neon offers real-time Internet telephony with
still-picture transfer, automatic registration, seamless on-line
software upgrades, personalized configurations for multiple users, and
content filtering functions. With continuing support for current and
evolving standards, Neon Technology insures that the Internet will
always have a home on the television.
