An attempt at some answers...

"Does a server store internet data."

I'm not sure what "internet" data is but servers have storage systems, whether a simple 1 gb hard drive or a 1 terabyte raid array. You can store whatever data you want on them.

Sun makes workstations which, presumably, contain hard disks of varying capacities.

EMC does great big storage arrays, i.e. multiple physical hard disks connected together via both hardware and software.

EMC's major selling point, let me emphasize MAJOR, is that their storage arrays can work in a heterogeneous environment, i.e. with multiple hardware platforms and operating systems. This allows a company's legacy systems to share data with their leading edge systems. Very useful if you're trying to, for example, link your e-commerce web sites with that inventory system that was developed in the '80's and everyone is afraid to touch.

EMC does not make computers. While Sun oem's storage systems it is not their primary focus. In my opinion, they are not competitors but they are interoperable.
