Wonder if the same could have been told if Cable had the same capital/debt raising capabilities a while back, as the telcos did and still do.

It's also interesting to contemplate what could happen to the established modeling (trade-off analyses) when you remove the costs associate with multiple modems and other discrete devices at both end of the connection.

I seem to recall that passive splitters were also used in the early FTTH templates, in order to cut down on the costs of backbone fiber (going back to the head ends). Like you say, though, it's been foresaken for the most part. When do you think it will be resurrected?
