C-Cube Forms Branding Partnership with Hyundai C-Cube, Korean Electronics Leader Join Forces in Asian Market for VideoCD Players
MILPITAS, Calif. -- December 17, 1996 -- C-Cube Microsystems (NASDAQ: CUBE) announced today that leading Korean consumer electronics company Hyundai Corporation will use the C-Cube brand on their C-Cube-based VideoCD players as the seal of top quality. Hyundai joins nine other leading Asian consumer electronics manufacturers, including Japan's Aiwa Co., Ltd., and Idall, one of the largest VCD suppliers in China, that have already licensed the C-Cube brand for their VideoCD players. The C-Cube brand on VideoCD players by Hyundai ensures consumers the highest level of video quality, reliability and interoperability.
"We are excited to join C-Cube in this strategic partnership," said Mr. S.H. Lee, director of Hyundai's Media Business Division. "We've seen that C-Cube brand quality is very important in the VCD market, and are very happy to join with them to satisfy our customers."
C-Cube launched an extensive consumer branding program for China in May of this year to spur consumer demand for their high-quality digital video products, and has extended branding efforts through a successful multimillion dollar promotional campaign.
"Joint brand promotion with C-Cube has been critically important to our success in the Chinese market," said Mr. Hu ZhiBiao, general manager of Idall. "We have worked in close partnership with C-Cube for several years, which has helped us grow to become one of the top two VCD suppliers and a household name in China. We rely on C-Cube for the highest quality in VCD, and are firmly committed to them."
"Customers are coming in and demanding VCD players with the C-Cube logo," said Mr. Zhang Xia, store manager at Chang An, a major department store in Beijing. "The C-Cube logo really means something to customers and the information about the brand is spreading quickly. Customers have seen the ads and talked with their friends, and know they are getting the highest quality and best reliability when they buy C-Cube."
"Our VCD branding efforts are progressing smoothly," said Alex Daly, vice president of marketing for C-Cube Microsystems. "We are delighted that the C-Cube brand has gained acceptance with the Chinese consumer and that key manufacturers, like Hyundai, are joining us to further promote high-quality VideoCD solutions."
