As I have said before Microsoft is embracing Java with passion to
promote is COM technology. Since ActiveX controls can be written
in any language Microsoft is embracing Java as the number 1 choice
for the development of ActiveX controls. ActiveX controls are seen as
Beans in the Beans land and all Java Beans are viewed as ActiveX
controls in the Microsoft land (i.e. its VM). Microsoft's VM hides a lot
of tedious ActiveX/OLE programming for you and writing an ActiveX
in Java is just like writing any other Java control/bean.

In addition to this Microsoft has provided a utility program that takes
an existing ActiveX control (.OCX, .TLB, and .DLL files) written in
a non Java language and generates the necessary .CLASS files for
you. True, developers will have to run all their Windows based
ActiveX controls through this utility for their conversion to Java takes
place, but just think of the number of installed based/existing ActiveX
controls. I dont think developers (let me put it this way: companies,
and not developers because they work for companies) would mind to
convert their existing ActiveX controls to .class files if they can
instantly become available on UNIX through Microsoft's VM (or
anyone else's for that matter) via the browsers (e.g. IE 4.0).

Now can you imagine the potential of the benefit Sun will get for
its NCs and servers:: All those neat visual and non visual controls
that were avilable on PCs can become instantly available everywhere
using a dummy NC and a browser, or by choice a UNIX workstation!
Conclusion is ultimate explosive growth for Sun thanks to Microsoft!
