Paul, RE: conventional wisdom and Intel

Forget even paying attention to conventional wisdom. It is irrelevant.

In summer '97, conventional wisdom was that Intel was now immune to its past cyclicality and consistent growth could be anticipated. That conventional wisdom was wrong.

In summer '98, conventional wisdom was that the trough in Intel's earnings had been reached, and Intel was on the verge of strong growth in earnings in the near term. That conventional wisdom was right.

I'm not saying that you should just ignore what the rest of the world is thinking. Just that it shouldn't affect your analysis of Intel's worth as an investment.
