Morning to everyone,
Just to note things are quiet here in Macedonia. Reports are that the continuation of the protests will begin at 1700-1800 hrs local time (1100-1200 EST). Prime target, once again, will be the US Embassy.
Haven't seen CNN report indepth about what transpired at the Embassy yesterday. Extensive damage was done to the perimeter fence, guard house, access gate, windows and vehicles. One must question where the US Army (since no Marines are on detail at this Embassy) was yesterday. There was sufficient notice that this protest was going to be held ... of course, the severity could not have been foreseen. But still, no protection showed up until 1800 hrs local, virtually one hour after the damage was done.
This morning two APCs were present at the Embassy. Word is that non-essential staff have been granted permission to leave Macedonia IF they consider theirselves to be in danger. My good friend is the Nurse there and she'll be staying.
Nine explosions were heard downtown Skopje last night. Reports are that the were "Thunder Flashes". These are training explosives that give off a loud clap, bright flash, lots of smoke, but don't do very much damage.
Well, that's all for now. More as things progress.
