Did something change?

A few days ago, DELL offered a Celeron 333 for $999 and one could buy it without the monitor for about $830.

Now, DELL offers a Celeron 333 for $1029 and no option on their web page for no monitor (perhaps you can by phone, I didn't check).

Does that mean that Dell is no longer in the sub-$1,000 area?

Meanwhile, the eMachine is a Celeron 366, a 15-inch monitor costs about $150 or less (of course, if you don't need a monitor . . .) and eMachines is coming in soon with a Celeron 433 for the same price.

Meanwhile, IBM announced it will sell a Celeron 433 w/o monitor for mid-800 price.

Interesting.
