My two cents...
This belong to the @@it happens school of thought. Did we make a lot of money for no real reason when the little Sojourner put out its advertisement and even the Martians were buying? Yes!!! Now we watch the stock bleed. It seems to be human nature to look for all the cracks in the wall when things are bad and see all the shining progress when things are good. I know that I err in that direction. But what has really changed? Some point to the new building, the so-called Taj Mahal syndrome. Was this a bad idea? Before new building--employees scattered all over the island of Alameda. Wind River dumping rent money down the drain. After building...Wind River owns choice piece of waterfront property and nice campus. All employees together. WIND, a more mature company, entices employees with nice facilities--no cubes, everyone has an office with a door, gym, cafeteria on site, and some darn nice views--maybe they can attract talent without quite so many stock options. What about the CFO debacle? Does anyone really know what happened? I see a lot of speculation based on speculation. IT seems to me that the blame is on Wall Street and how the stock market works, how speculators take advantage of appearances, sometimes when there are no facts or real events to support them. To anyone who really looks at this, this was clearly a non-event that only became an event because of the resulting loss in value of stock.

Daytraders work on this appearance stuff. But if you are really investing in the company, you might ask "What is going on with the company?" I see a bit of slowing as the company grows but this is inevitable. Sometimes you just have to sit back, strengthen your position and wait for the market to mature. This is exactly what the geniuses at Microsoft did in the early 80's when they were developing PC apps and there were few PC's. I see Wind developing great technology, rolling out new better products with a wider market. Do I see anything really troubling going on here. They have quietly established themselves as #1 in a huge growing industry. They were #2 when the Pathfinder landed on the moon. This is what appears to my eyes...along with a portfolio that has lost about a third of its value....DARN!!!! I guess I'll just have to make up for it by buying some stock at sub-20. Thank goodness I don't need any cash right now!!!!
