I have misgivings about mandatory minimums, and, like Chuck Coulson, I think that there should be alternatives to incarceration for some non- violent offenders. However, these are policy problems, not problems with the cops, and they are limited in scope: if unfair, they are unfair to drug users, a small segment of the population.
