Re: Theory
I think you are absolutely right. But every time I buy/bought an "in favor" stock, whether it was my research or a broker recommendation, it immediately did an about face. When I decide to buy something "out in left field", I seem to do ok. Now, that's just coincidence, but that has been my experience. Look at the past couple weeks, the COMS, etc. You can get base hits in the $5 and under, too, and many times that is what I settle for. Re: Averaging down. I have done it several times. Many of you know that I have a significant ultra-conservative portfolio of utilities. I do not worry in that sector, have done it several times there, and altho it has worked about 2/3 of the time, that's pretty good. I don't trade those stocks, and even the ones which I'm under on I feel, over time, will be in the money. In my trading stocks, I have averaged down after it has started to turn back up, and then I can trade out at a profit earlier. In my trading stocks it has worked about 1/2 the time, but you see what I trade. I have also averaged down when the reason for the decline was a market sell off, rather than the fundamentals of the company. Kevin, you ought to go over and copy to here your original lecture.
