Is there a way to turn off the quick-scan feature
Yes, you can enable and disable the quick-scan feature on the Configuration page. You can do this in the middle or end of a multiple message download, and the change takes effect immediately (make sure you hit "Update Configuration", then hit the "back" button). Currently there is no way to adjust the number of characters per message.

The same quick-scan setting controls the display of messages on any BrowseMaster multiple message screen. You can view a multiple message screen of a personal profile by hitting the "get xx" button on the personal profile screen.
