Jean-Robert, Since Dell and GTW sell primarily direct they don't show up in reports of retail sales. According IDC, looking at U.S. total unit sales in 4Q 1998 the rankings are:

CPQ 18.1%
DELL 12.8%
GTW 9.1%
IBM 9.1%
HWP 7.2%

If you look at total PCs sold worldwide in 4Q 98 the rankings are:

CPQ 13.8%
IBM 8.2%
DELL 7.9%
HWP 5.8%
NEC-PB 4.3%
Apple sold 962K units in 4Q CY98 this would give it about 3.6% of the worldwide market.

As far as the Dell-IBM relationship. I don't really know if there are ramifications for Apple there. I expect IBM will expand the components it sells to Dell. I'd also note IBM is a major player in Intel's Merced program and intends a strong role in the intro including using it's copper processes and developing 8 way systems. IBM is also indicating strong support for 64 bit PPC for their high end servers. My personal opinion is that if the Merced and follow-on programs turns out to be as successful as specs indicate, IBM will shift more resources toward Merced, etc. and less toward PPC. I do feel the PPC program at Motorola and IBM is something that Apple probably has some concerns about in the mid to long term. Rich
