I'd probably use different makes & models, but that is certainly just opinion.

However, I would also like to be fair to MTI in the sense that people that they have a reasonable product for what it does. MTI has a relatively fast RAID subsystem with limited O/S support. This has it's place, and I have been to several MTIC sites that have a few TBs
of 6700's (both in the DFW area, in the computer industry, and publicly traded.

EMC would not have been the correct product for these end-users, and the end-users bought wisely. They both needed a high-speed FC point-to-point solution and weren't interested in the software features that EMC offered. Price was not a contributing factor in their solution.

Conversely, I just returned from a site that IBM paid me to do some consulting for. A large insurance company needed approx 6TB of storage to attach to 6 HP3000s. EMC was already in there, and even on the floor. This company was looking for 24x7, 3-way mirroring, and a method to clone 5 TB of data and migrate it 1400 miles to california over a 48-hour downtime window.

Only two vendors were brought in, EMC and IBM. MTI couldn't even participate if the end-user called them because MTI won't run on HP3000s.

This customer simply asked that the storage wouldn't be any slower then they already had. Performance wasn't even an issue.
